ABC Nail Challenge 2014: Q is for Quilted Nails

Hey everyone! I hope your week is going well! Mine is going pretty good, it’s spring break so I don’t have any homework or school work to do (yay!). I did have my internship on Monday and yesterday, and I’m interviewing a girl for our program this morning. This afternoon I’ll be going to my grandparent’s house for a couple days, so this will probably be my last post this week.

Today’s nails are Q is for Quilted Nails. I used this tutorial from The PolishAholic. Her tutorial does a great job of explaining/showing the steps to create this look (and it’s really simple!), so check it out. I used a coat of Orly Nail Defense for my base coat, two coats of China Glaze – Flip Flop Fantasy for the base color, Wet n Wild – Tropicalia for the top color, and Pure Ice – Beware for the dots, I used a coat of Seche Vite Dry Fast for my top coat. Thanks for reading! Have a great week!

Neon Half Moon

Hey everyone! It’s been more than a month since my last post (oops). In that month, I’ve performed at my last home football game with the band (we beat Oregon, which was pretty cool since they were number 5 in the nation and they lost to our unranked team), my parents got to see me perform a halftime show (they came down to Tucson for my senior night), I went to my last ever football game with the band (it was fun even though we lost to our in-state rivals, ASU), went to a friend’s house for thanksgiving, I turned 22 on December 3rd (and I don’t feel any different – looking at you Taylor Swift), lost and found an internship (that was stressful), finished major projects, and gone to my last day of class for the semester (except for finals next week). I have a couple finals that I have to do next week, I’m going to a dog handling class at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona so I can become a volunteer, and I’m going home next Friday and I don’t come back to Tucson until January 20th (yay! long winter break). I should be able to keep up with blogging again because I actually have time now haha.

These nails are actually from October, but I didn’t have time to post them until now (notice the “out of season” neon colors). For these nails I started with a coat of OPI Matte Nail Envy. I then applied three coats of China Glaze – Flip Flop Fantasy. Once that dried, I used a hole punch reinforcer and painted the top part of my nails with two coats of China Glaze – Turned Up Turquoise. I finished with a coat of INM – Out the Door Top Coat. I’ll be back on Friday with more nails! 🙂 Thanks for reading!

Cartoon Nails

Hey everyone! I’m really sorry for not posting on Monday, I had nails and a post planned, but I had a major nail fail and could not post them haha. I hope you all had a great weekend and beginning of the week. It feels like Monday to me because my sister and I went to Chico to visit our grandpa on Monday night and we left yesterday morning (it felt like a second weekend to me). It was a short visit, but it was nice to see my grandpa in between his trips – he was camping for two weeks, came home for a day, and he’s headed back out camping and traveling the country (I hope when I’m his age I’ll have as much energy and be in as good of shape as he is!). I puppy sat on Monday, oh my gosh they’re all getting so big! All of them have their eyes open and they are walking around a lot more then they were on Friday. Yesterday Sarah and I had eye appointments (both of us have “perfect vision,” although I am a tiny bit farsighted, but nothing that needs correction), and we had our eyes dilated for the first time (needless to say it was interesting trying to read/text haha). Today Sarah and I are puppy sitting and we’ll get to take the puppies on their second car ride to get them used to going places in the car; the puppies will also get to meet new people because we’ll probably take them to my mom’s work. Here’s some puppy pictures me and red boy and teal girl resting her head on her paw (adorable!).

I’m kind of proud of today’s nails. They’re not the best, but I tried something new and I kind of got it to work! I decided to re-create the cartoon nails look. These are not exactly how I envisioned them, but the basic idea is there and with practice, I think I’ll be able to make them better 🙂 . I started with Orly Nail Defense. I topped that with 3 coats of China Glaze – Flip Flop Fantasy. I then outlined my nail with a striping brush and black acrylic paint (I should have made the lines thinner, but I was learning as I went). I then used a dotting tool and white acrylic paint to make a dot on each of my nails. I then used a striping brush and white acrylic paint to create the white line on each of my nails above the dot (I’m not sure what it’s called haha). I topped them off with Essie – Matte About You Top Coat. It was way easier than I thought it would be when I first saw the design and in person they look pretty good! I’ll definitely be doing these again someday because they’re simple and fun. Have a great Wednesday! Thanks for reading!
