China Glaze – Frostbite (and July polishes)

Hello everyone! I hope you’ve all had a great week so far! On Monday, I took my 12 year old neighbor, Brandon, with me to see the puppies. We had fun, and so did the puppies. They are acting much more like typical puppies and much less like “things that look like puppies but don’t do much because they’re too small” puppies. They’re running around more and playing with each other and us now. Yesterday, I didn’t do much, but that’s how I like to spend my free time. I did practice my music for this season yesterday though (there’s only 17 days left until band camp – I have mixed feelings about that, haha). Here’s a picture of lime girl, lavender girl, and orange boy playing together.

Here are the polishes I got in July

  • Zoya – Liberty
  • Zoya – Renee
  • Zoya – Wednesday
  • China Glaze – Pink Voltage (Neon) [this is from April, but for some reason never made my count]
  • Out the Door Top Coat
  • Lucky 13 Lacquer – Always

July Total: 6

The other day, I was looking through my blog and decided that on my “Polish Stash” page, I wanted the names of the colors to link to pictures. Because of this, my posts will be featuring at least 1 swatch a week (likely with something extra as well), for a while. So I’m starting today with China Glaze – Frostbite. This is a coat of OPI Matte Nail Envy topped with three coats of Frostbite and 1 coat of Out the Door Top Coat.

These next pictures feature everything above with three coats of Lucky 13 Lacquer – Always and a coat of Out the Door Top Coat. The first picture is with light, the second picture is glowing (not the best picture, but I was getting tired and didn’t want to hold my hand under the light for more than like 15 seconds). Thanks for reading!

Ikat Nails (second try)

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great week last week. I watched the puppies on Monday and Wednesday, but I forgot to take pictures both days (9 mobile puppies are a lot of work, haha). Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday were just relaxing days, I didn’t really do much, but it was nice. On Saturday, my sister had her graduation/going away party (although none of her friends were there, they were all out of town, so the party turned into a birthday party for my dad – his birthday was on Friday, but  it was still fun). I knew what I was going to wear at her party, so I decided to do my nails to compliment my dress. Today, I’m puppy sitting and taking my 12 year old neighbor with me to play with the puppies (and help me out haha).

My dress has an Ikat/Chevron print, so I decided to go with an Ikat print for my nails. I started with a coat of Zoya – Anchor base coat. I then applied two coats of Zoya – Avery. I followed this tutorial from Nails by Kayla Shevonne for making the Ikat print. I used black and white acrylic paint and Zoya – Wednesday for the Ikat print. Overall, I think they turned out good and they complimented my dress well (the dress is from The Limited, in case anyone is wondering). Anyway, here are my nails! Thanks for reading! I’ll be back on Wednesday!

I’m Taking a Break

I’ll be taking a week-long break from blogging and nails. My hands have gotten really dry and I’ve gotten several hangnails that make it hard to paint/clean up my nails (it hurts when I use acetone). I’ll be back next week with my nails, until then here are a couple puppy pictures 🙂

Mint Mani for Talia Joy

Hello everyone! I hope you’ve had a good past couple days! I babysat 5 kids on Wednesday night with my sister (that was interesting, haha). Then on Thursday, i just kind of relaxed (typical summer day haha). Today, I’m puppy sitting again, I haven’t seen them in person since Monday, but they look like they’ve grown a lot since then! Here’s a picture of red boy in the kiddie pool for the first time:

Today’s nails are inspired by and dedicated to Talia Joy Castanello, an extremely talented YouTube make-up artist. Unfortunately, she lost her battle against neuroblastoma and preleukemia on Tuesday morning, at the age of 13. Nicole from Nail Polish Wars thought that it would be nice for the nail community to band together and show their support for Talia and her family by posting mint nails with the hashtags #mintmanisfortaliajoy and #taliaslegacy (the color choice of mint was inspired by the last post on Talia’s Instagram before her passing). I wanted to do something fun and girly, so I decided to try my first leopard print nails. For these nails, I started with a coat of OPI Matte Nail Envy. I then applied two coats of China Glaze – For Audrey. I let that dry and then added blobs of China Glaze – Shower Together with a dotting tool. I then outlined different parts of the Shower Together blobs with the tiny end of the dotting tool and Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear – Black Out. I then added little dots with Black Out and topped it with two coats of Out the Door Top Coat (I wanted super shiny nails). For my first attempt at leopard print nails, I’m pleased with how they turned out. I’m adding the InLinkz (hopefully) so be sure to check out the others who have contributed mint manis! Have a great day, and just keep swimming.

3D Dotted Nails Featuring Lucky 13 Lacquer Always and Hey, Who Turned Out the Lights?

Hello everyone! I seem to have a hard time posting on Monday’s, I’ve missed two in a row now. But I’m posting now, so I guess that’s ok haha. On Saturday, my sister and I took our 9 year old neighbor neighbor over to see the puppies. He really liked visiting with the puppies, especially since we got to take them outside (on a sheet in the grass) and play with them for a while out there. On Monday, Sarah and I went to watch the puppies. We got to take them into the backyard again and put them in the kiddie pool with a little bit of water. Most of them did fine (a few even fell asleep), but a couple were not happy at first and let us know by whining really loudly. I won’t be going to see the puppies today (their owner has the day off work), but I will be babysitting 5 kids with my sister tonight (2 kids from one family and 3 kids from another family). Here’s two puppy pictures!

Today’s nails were supposed to be posted on Monday, but I forgot to blog so I’m posting them today. I got tired of having the plain nails from Friday so I decided to revamp what I already had on. I had a coat of OPI Matte Nail Envy, 2 coats of China Glaze – White on White, and 3 coats of Lucky 13 Lacquer – Always on my nails. I then applied black dots (Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear – Black Out) with a dotting tool. I let that dry and then placed dots of China Glaze – White on White off-centered of the black dots. I then topped the white dots with two dotted layers of Lucky 13 Lacquer – Hey, Who Turned Out the Lights?. I topped that with a coat of Out the Door Top Coat. That’s it from me today, I’ll be back Friday! Have a great day!

Hey everyone! I hope you’ve had a great week! Mine was pretty good; I puppy sat, went to Chico, puppy sat some more, and relaxed. On Wednesday, Sarah and I took the puppies for their first real car ride. We took four puppies to my mom’s work (she works close to where the puppies live) and hung out there for about an hour while her coworkers came down to snuggle the puppies. Then we went back to the puppies’ house and switched puppies. We took the remaining five puppies to their owner’s (Renee) work. We put a blanket on the ground and the puppies stumbled around on the blanket while Renee’s coworkers took turns holding them. The first group of puppies was very noisy in the car, but the second group was quiet. Roxie (mama dog) did very good with us taking the puppies away and didn’t squish any of the ones that were left at home with her. The puppies are also starting to hear! I was making noises (I’m weird) and pink girl perked her ears up and looked at me. I continued to talk/make noises at her and she looked at me and my mouth while I was talking. I then cuddled with blue boy and barked at him, to which he responded to by barking and play growling at me. I’m headed back there today to watch them, so I’ll have more puppy pictures on Monday! Here’s a picture of all 9 puppies on a sheet in the kitchen.

Today’s nails feature my second ever indie polish! This is another Lucky 13 Lacquer polish (the same brand as my first indie). This polish is called “Always” and it is from Lucky 13’s Mischief Managed (Harry Potter) Collection. This polish was “inspired by the patronus and this exchange between Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape.” (“Lily? After all this time?” – Albus; “Always” – Snape). This polish is a “sheer silver-y topcoat with aqua microflakes that glows bright blue in the dark.”  I love this polish! It has a subtle shimmer and the blue flakes are subtle as well, until they hit the right light. I layered this polish over China Glaze – White on White to get the effect of the polish on its own without the base color adding or detracting from the polish. When I charged up the polish and turned the lights off, the glow was great, it’s definitely bright blue! The brush and formula are great, just as in “Hey, Who Turned Out The Lights?”.

I started with a coat of OPI – Matte Nail Envy, topped that with two coats of China Glaze – White on White, applied three coats of Lucky 13 Lacquer – Always, and topped it off with Out the Door Top Coat. I would definitely recommend this polish if you’re looking for a sheer silver topper that glows in the dark! It is available here for $8.50 plus shipping. Have a great day and weekend! Cartoon Nails

Hey everyone! I’m really sorry for not posting on Monday, I had nails and a post planned, but I had a major nail fail and could not post them haha. I hope you all had a great weekend and beginning of the week. It feels like Monday to me because my sister and I went to Chico to visit our grandpa on Monday night and we left yesterday morning (it felt like a second weekend to me). It was a short visit, but it was nice to see my grandpa in between his trips – he was camping for two weeks, came home for a day, and he’s headed back out camping and traveling the country (I hope when I’m his age I’ll have as much energy and be in as good of shape as he is!). I puppy sat on Monday, oh my gosh they’re all getting so big! All of them have their eyes open and they are walking around a lot more then they were on Friday. Yesterday Sarah and I had eye appointments (both of us have “perfect vision,” although I am a tiny bit farsighted, but nothing that needs correction), and we had our eyes dilated for the first time (needless to say it was interesting trying to read/text haha). Today Sarah and I are puppy sitting and we’ll get to take the puppies on their second car ride to get them used to going places in the car; the puppies will also get to meet new people because we’ll probably take them to my mom’s work. Here’s some puppy pictures me and red boy and teal girl resting her head on her paw (adorable!).

I’m kind of proud of today’s nails. They’re not the best, but I tried something new and I kind of got it to work! I decided to re-create the cartoon nails look. These are not exactly how I envisioned them, but the basic idea is there and with practice, I think I’ll be able to make them better 🙂 . I started with Orly Nail Defense. I topped that with 3 coats of China Glaze – Flip Flop Fantasy. I then outlined my nail with a striping brush and black acrylic paint (I should have made the lines thinner, but I was learning as I went). I then used a dotting tool and white acrylic paint to make a dot on each of my nails. I then used a striping brush and white acrylic paint to create the white line on each of my nails above the dot (I’m not sure what it’s called haha). I topped them off with Essie – Matte About You Top Coat. It was way easier than I thought it would be when I first saw the design and in person they look pretty good! I’ll definitely be doing these again someday because they’re simple and fun. Have a great Wednesday! Thanks for reading!
